Lo-Fatt-Chow
About This Spot
Stepping into Lo-Fatt-Chow in Hoboken is like finding a quietly nurturing corner of the city where Chinese cuisine takes on a lighter, more thoughtful form. The pace here feels unhurried, inviting you to savor the subtle aromas and the soft hum of conversation without the clamor or rush often associated with takeout spots or delivery hubs. The atmosphere holds the calm of a neighborhood treasure, a place where you’re just as likely to catch a friendly greeting from the owner as you are to pick up an order. It has a gentle rhythm, a space that seems created with care for those craving something familiar but unpretentious.
The food matches this feeling—comforting yet refreshingly clean, with an emphasis on balance rather than excess. Dishes arrive looking simple but never sparse, a quiet celebration of fresh ingredients and home-style touches. The usual suspects of Mandarin cooking are present but presented with a lighter hand — none of the heavy batters, excessive oil, or overwhelming MSG that typically crowd American Chinese fare. Instead, there’s a freshness and clarity to each plate that makes you feel nourished, not weighed down, whether you’re picking up a warm sesame chicken dinner or a subtly spiced vegetable curry.
What stands out most is the quietly personal approach to this corner of Hoboken’s food scene. Plans and habits form easily here — a weekly stop for those who appreciate the owner’s steady smile as much as the consistency of the wonton soup or the steady comfort of a General Tso’s chicken without the usual grease. Lo-Fatt-Chow isn’t about spectacle; it’s about a dependable, easygoing haven where healthy doesn’t mean compromising on taste or feeling genuinely cared for.
For those who know the anxiety of post-takeout regret, this place offers an alternative. It’s the kind of destination that quietly rewards patience and thoughtful eating, whether you’re dining in, grabbing a wrap on the go, or having a meal delivered with the same familiar hospitality. Here, every visit feels like you’re coming home to a lighter, cleaner, and more mindful approach to a beloved cuisine.

I must say,the last Chinese food I got while visiting the U.S made me literally sick with the amount of MSG used in Chinatown NYC. This year, my friends drove me to this LoFattChow(cool name) Chinese restaurant. Took us 45 minutes to get there but worth it. Fresh, low salt, light, non greasy, and without batter. Many standard dishes but many dishes I would not normally see. This is not your typical Chinese takeout just offering Chicken Fried rice/wings and egg rolls. I’d describe it as a diverse mix of traditional and higher end authentic cuisine with a healthy concept in mind. Mixture of China Mandarin and Hong Kong Cantonese tastes to choose from. Tasted just like the Chinese food we are used to in Toronto’s multiple Chinese fine restaurants. Lady owner is extremely nice and intelligent. Nice to see someone like this succeed. See you again one day lady.

We like this place. It’s going to taste healthier but it scratches the itch for Chinese food and it tastes good. You can tell it’s lighter, less greasy, easy to digest, less guilty for takeout.

I work in the Monroe Center and eat at Lo Fatt weekly. The Wonton Soup is a must have. No gummy hard noodles here, soft wonton dumplings that fall apart so easily. General Tso’s & Seven Vegetable Chicken are a mainstay too. The owner, Danielle, is always pleasant and cheerful and I enjoy catching up with her when I pick up my order. The most consistent and healthy Chinese food in Hoboken. Hands down!!

Great spot for healthy chinese food! Their soups are my favorite!

Bear in mind this place claims to make “healthy” chinese food. That said, it’s good. If you expect your traditional american chinese loaded with sodium, food coloring, and sauces with artificial flavors, you will be sorely disappointed. This food isn’t bad at all given that I eat it, it’s tasty, and I don’t feel horrible afterwards. All things considered, this is a solid spot.

Very healthy and delicious food! I think some of the reviews here don’t understand that this place does their best to serve healthy Chinese food. I’ve been coming here for a few years and it’s always a go to when I don’t have time to make dinner.
